This Black Conservative Didn't Own Anything But A Poor Argument

This Black Conservative Didn't Own Anything But A Poor Argument Rant #21 ( Opinion ) April 1, 2020 This video just bugged me as soon as it began: https://www.facebook.com/thehodgetwins/videos/813591575818557/ Wow, the one Black Trump supporter in that state soo "owned" the liberal there... K, first off, the KKK may've been originally founded by somebody who was a Democrat. Ok. And? Lincoln was a Republican. The parties had a different alignment back then. By no means do the party divisions of the Reconstruction era some 150 years ago have much to do with where they stand today on most issues. As a rough generalization, the GOP came about as a party which supported urbanization and manufacturing (the legacy of Hamiltonian ideology), eventually giving way to representing big business. But before that, the Republicans--beginning with Lincoln--did things to encourage education, by establishing public colleges; fostering railroads so that it could connect t...

If You Like AOC, Don't Donate To Her Campaign

If You Like AOC, Don't Donate To Her Campaign Rant #12 ( Opinion ) Originally March 15, 2020; posted March 16, 2020 I like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. I think that she represents an important voice for both progressives and Millennials. DC definitely could use the new blood. And Fox News' fears of a first-term Congresswoman (who usually get no attention or clout at all) has actually amplified her popularity nationwide.  Every time I scroll through Facebook, I see these ads about donating to AOC's campaign. This has led me to conclude that if you truly support her and what she stands for, then don't give to her campaign this year! Instead, donate to Democratic campaigns in swing districts. Help Chrissy Houlahan (Chester County's Democratic Congresswoman since 2019); the Democrats cannot hold the House without holding onto seats like hers. She may run on a more moderate platform, but she's there when the Dems need the votes on important legislation. This H...

Insulting CNN To Shift The Center

Insulting CNN To Shift The Center Rant #9 ( Opinion ) Originally March 8, 2020; Posted March 10, 2020 Why is CNN the scapegoat of the right, rather than MSNBC, which has more clearly liberal commentators? I'll tell you why: by attacking a fairly neutral news station as "liberal," it makes right wing nutjobs who oppose basic facts and Democrats look a little less crazy to people who pay less attention to politics. The public starts to believe this bullshit narrative about CNN marking the epitome of the far left. First of all, let's clarify some semantics here. Terms like "media," "mainstream media" and "the liberal media" get tossed around a lot, often interchangeably. Media is really just any medium of communication: TV, newspapers, even this website all technically comprise the media. CNN and Fox News both equally fall under the label of 'media.' Those two would also make up the "mainstream media," ...

Good People On Both Sides?

Image
"Good People On Both Sides?" Rant #7 ( Opinion ) Originally March 8, 2020 To whom it may concern, I get where you're coming from with this chart. It makes me cringe to say it like this, but "there are good people on both sides" who want the same endgame, that being a surviving and thriving America--their road maps just differ. At one point in time, I was a staunchly conservative person--a position which has since largely flipped. I was never a racist in my heart and soul when I felt that way, back in the Bush era. The vast majority of those who disagree with you have good intentions, just misaligned ideas on how things do and should work. Give those people the benefit of the doubt, until they say something that reveals any purely hateful sentiment (e.g. genuine racism). There do exist a large number of simply awful others, yet they make up the minority. Ignorance abounds in the rest. Remembering that is vital to maintaining the see...

Bernie Burning Opponents In Polls

Bernie Burning Opponents In Polls Rant #2 ( Opinion ) Originally: February 19, 2020 Polls often fluctuate wildly and, after the upset in 2016, many question the legitimacy of polls altogether. Admittedly, the 2016 presidential election that saw Donald Trump become president shocked nearly everyone--including Trump himself, given that in the days leading up to the election he started decrying it as 'rigged.' The polling agencies have since attempted to correct these mistakes, some of which include changing their models to give more weight to non-college educated people, who don't answer surveys as frequently, among other tweaks to their methodology. So it seems like people discredit polls too much these days, given their typical accuracy. Also, there is more than just one polling agency--some do a better job than others. For example, Rasmussen Reports leans heavily toward Republicans. With all that said, acknowledging the fallibility of opinion polling, a slew of i...

Texas Turns Swing State, Hispanics Become White, and the Bolton Cover-Up

Texas Turns Swing State, Hispanics Become White, and the Bolton Cover-Up Rant #1 ( Opinion) Originally January 31, 2020 This is a rant that has to do with the idea that Texas will likely become a swing state in the near future, in part due to growing Hispanic populations. However, the White establishment may eventually absorb Hispanics to avoid becoming a minority population, much like they did with the Irish in an earlier era. And finally, some thoughts about the denial of John Bolton's witness testimony by the Senate and what that means. It is derived and cleaned up from a conversation I had with a friend today. Other portions of this conversation, also rants similar to this in form, may be posted later. 'Whites will be a minority by 2040.' Or 2050, 2045, whatever; the headline may have a range of potential years but they all point to the same thing: that the Hispanic population of the United States is growing rapidly, so much so that Non-Hispanic Whites will...
